Nothing Happens

A hand-drawn red moon with a human face surrounded by curling wisps of fog.

Nothing Happens

I miss it—
Newly severed,
that chilly sensation
of a fresh laceration.

Sleeping on the ground.
No excess.

Getting my bike out,
shoes clacking on the ground.
Squeeze into the elevator,
escape the city,
into the stinging cold.
I feel the pain
from the icy breeze
flowing over my face.
Frosty flat ground,
nothing to see,
nobody around.

Going out at night,
I am hunting
for a red moon—
me and my trusty bike.
Beautiful umbra.

Seeing far and not seeing anything,
strong gusts of cold fog
flinging past my ears.
I push into the pedals.
I am not alone.

On my ears,
repetitive drone sounds by Kali Malone,
Radiohead,
and Cantus Arcticus.

At times barely moving,
then flying.
Nothing ever happens.
But everything changes.
